Written by Genetikarockradio.com - Geneti

GN'R: Duff McKagan and Axl Rose, together again on stage

Written by Genetikarockradio.com - Geneti

Since the entry met Guns N 'Roses in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame (next April 14), rumors of a reunion of the original have skyrocketed. And to add fuel to the fire, former bassist for the band, Duff McKagan is back onto the stage to play with Axl Rose and the current Guns N 'Roses (do not miss the short video that we leave the event ). Limarán ¿Axl and Slash too rough? The circle is closed ...
Occurred on December 16. Guns N 'Roses arrived at Key Arena in Seattle to give another concert included in its extensive U.S. tour. And who better to make the opening act and Duff McKagan Loaded? The bassist, guitarist and singer (originally from Seattle) opened the night for the band over 25 years ago he founded along with Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler. Curious is not it?

Forget old quarrels, the night threw up a few emotions for those who were lucky enough to attend the show. First with the winks to Duff McKagan's Loaded Guns repertoire, performing during her performance on "So Fine" (composed by the same McKagan), and covers of "New Rose" and "Attitude", versioned by songs the original Guns N 'Roses in the 90's.

Soon after came what everyone expected. Half concert Guns, Axl Rose McKagan invited onto the stage to play "You Could Be Mine". And as expected, madness ensued ... We also recall that it is not the first time that accompanies current McKagan Guns N 'Roses. The Velvet Revolver bassist also participated last year in the concert Axl Rose and his offered in London. We are therefore fully recovered to a friend ...

Now what we need to know is what will happen on the night of April 14, when the Guns N 'Roses will enter the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The gala will take place in Cleveland is seen as the ideal opportunity for a possible reunion of the original lineup of the band. The only obstacle that remains occur so far irreconcilable relationship between Axl Rose and Slash. But maybe things are changing ... McKagan can be the perfect mediator.

Pending on what happens in the Hall Of Fame, here you have a video summary of the Seattle show, in which the good vibes between McKagan and Rose was more than evident.

A good sign ...

Written by Www.nacion.com - SOFÍA GUERRERO

Guns N 'Roses, Beastie Boys and Red Hot Chili Peppers will be part of the select list, from 2012
The recognized groups Guns N 'Roses, Beastie Boys and Red Hot Chili Peppers will be part of the under-representation of 80's rock that slowly works its way into the legendary Hall of Fame Rock and Roll.

In addition to his music, Guns N 'Roses was notorious for fights between members and their drug problems. AP

The bands are part of the small group of artists who will join the select list of thematic museum in 2012. The announcement was made yesterday by spokesmen of the Hall of Fame, located in Cleveland, USA.

The British The Small Faces, Donovan folk singer Laura Nyro U.S. and complete the group of musicians who will participate in the induction ceremony in April.

"They represent the broad spectrum of artists that define rock and roll," said the organization's president, Joel Peresman.

The Hall of Fame announced today that the induction ceremony of new artists, will open its library and archives to the public.

Long career. The three groupings of rock loaded with over 25 years of experience and millions of albums sold, who earned the support of hundreds of voters to enter the room.

Authors of topics as well known as Welcome to the Jungle, Guns N 'Roses became an instant phenomenon when it launched in 1987 the LP (long play) Appetite for Destruction.

The group was headed by Axl Rose since its founding in the early 80's. Slash and Izzy Stradlin on guitar, Duff McKagan on bass and Steven Adler on drums, completed the famous formula that Guns N 'Roses dominated the musical scene with their aggressive rock.

The band sold millions of records, in sharp contrast to the pop world, which at the time was dominated by artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson.

However, the group's internal turmoil, led to crumble in 1996.

His entry into the Hall of Fame is sure to bring speculation about a possible reunion, at least for the next ceremony April 14 in Cleveland, according to AP reports.

Meanwhile, Californians of Red Hot Chili Peppers achieved worldwide success thanks to albums like BloodSugarSexMagik (1991) and Californication (1999).

Another of the honorees, the Beastie Boys have been one of the richest races in the world of hip-hop and rock, with a distance of three decades, which have also incorporated the funk into their creations. In addition, the Brooklyn trio has drawn attention for his political activism as style icons and fashion.

Among the musicians who were not admitted this year by the institution, include Donna Summer, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, Rufus and Chaka Khan. All were part of the nomination for the class of 2012.

Voters also approved the pioneers of hip-hop Eric B. Rakim War, the English of The Cure and the American soul group The Spinners.

Please join me in congratulating our friend and colleague Duff McKagan, who's headed into the Rock N' Roll with Guns N' Roses, the band he co-founded with Slash, Axl Rose, and co. in Los Angels in the 1980s. They'll be joined in the Rock Hall class of 2011 by the Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. The induction ceremony goes down in April.

Obviously, Axl Rose still tours as Guns N' Roses -- he's the only member of the classic lineup in the band -- and he's bringing the crew to KeyArena on Dec. 16. If you act now, you can still get half-price tickets on Groupon. (If you need a primer on the GNR backstory, we highly suggest you pick up a copy of Duff's new book, It's So Easy.)

Congrats, Duff!

Written by Espn.go.com - Duff McKagan

Hey! Este material se vende. Me mordió el anzuelo.

Boxing hype still pulls me in for Cotto-Margarito

Written by Espn.go.com - Duff McKagan

Duff McKagan's search for sports action drew him to Cotto-Margarito over Oregon-UCLA.

Just back from a month away from the good 'ol USA and, starving for American sports news, I ravenously digested ESPN and ESPN2 for the most part of Friday morning through just after noon.

As a result, I found that the rematch of Cotto-Margarito fight from some three years ago would be on HBO pay-per-view the following night. As a fight fan, I know that HBO, of course, does those "24/7" exposes of the two fighters, their training camps, and the "angle" that may or may not be there. (Another result of me back home watching ESPN was that I found out that UCLA was playing Oregon for the Pac-12 championship that night. I thought I had read the ticker wrong. UCLA? At 6-7? Oh, that's right, USC is on probation. This North and South Division thing: Dumb.)

The "angle" that was making this fight interesting for most seemed to be that it might have been possible Antonio Margarito had used plaster in his hand-wraps before his late-round annihilation and bludgeoning of Miguel Cotto in that last fight. The suspicion was brought about when plaster was apparently found just before a fight Margarito had with Shane Mosley after the Cotto massacre.

HBO took the viewer along, as they painted a plainly black and white picture; Good (Cotto) vs. Evil (Margarito) was the story HBO has to tell, and they played it to the hilt. Hey! This stuff sells. I took the bait.

Español: Estos rockeros saben de bandas cambiarias

Written by Online.wsj.com - NEIL SHAH

These rockers know exchange rate band

Written by Online.wsj.com - NEIL SHAH
The rock band Metallica has made a living for the past 30 years belting out anthems such as The Four Horsemen apocalyptic and Enter Sandman. Now, which reveals one of the pioneers of heavy metal bands is something else: the European crisis.

Cliff Burnstein, the manager of the band, touring Europe accelerated to avoid being a victim of the financial problems of the continent. Now that the crisis appears to spread more affluent countries such as France, Burnstein concerned about a collapse of the euro, making it difficult to hire promoters Metallica in the 17 countries sharing the currency to pay its cache.

Instead of doing a European tour in 2013, as planned, Metallica will launch a "European vacation" in mid-2012, which includes appearances at festivals Rock Im Park and Rock Am Ring, Germany, and recitals in Britain and Austria.

"Look, I'm no economist, but I have a title, so that helps," says Burnstein. "One has to wonder what is the best time to do what, when and where," he says.

The global music industry has been affected by the decline in record sales, the prohibitive prices of tickets to concerts and the weakness of the developed economies. Now, financial fears make up the large rock rebels seek to protect their pockets.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, another group managed by Burnstein and his partner Peter Mensch, also advanced their performances in Europe, having recently launched their first tour in four years in Latin America. About 75% of income comes from touring band outside the United States, says Burnstein.

Anthony Addis, manager of the British alternative rock band Muse and others acknowledge that fluctuations have hurt non-US customers, which made many tours of Europe and do not want to get paid in dollars.

Some rockers learn after stumbling. Duff McKagan, former bassist for Guns N 'Roses, spent $ 40,000 in expensive suits in Italy did not know the equivalence between the Italian currency, then the lira and the dollar. The musician then took business courses at the University of Seattle, began writing about finance for Playboy magazine and has just launched a wealth management firm for rockers: Meridian Rock Capital Management LP.

After the 2008 financial crisis, rock bands and their representatives pay more attention to previously ignored issues such as exchange rates and economic trends before signing contracts with foreign developers. Eight months before Metallica takes the stage in Germany, Burnstein decide whether the group should be charged in dollars, euros or a combination of both currencies. If the exchange rate hurts the income of Metallica, the purchasing manager hedges that ensure a suitable rate. Sometimes they raise the price of tickets to offset exchange rate losses, although this strategy avoids Burnstein. "Nobody is looking for an exchange operation to make money, but do not want to be a loser," says Burnstein.

What most concerns him is the euro. "In the coming years, the dollar will strengthen and the euro will weaken, and if so, I take that organizing more of these concerts (in Europe) now, because they will be more profitable for us," he observes.

Sometimes Burnstein calculations coincide with the wishes of its customers. In September, for example, Red Hot Chili Peppers toured South America, an increasingly popular destination for rock bands thanks to the rise of local currencies facilitates the payment of generous fees in dollars. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea, great surfers took advantage to go to a beach about an hour from Rio de Janeiro.

Given the bleak European rock bands turn their attention to areas with stronger currencies, such as South America, Asia and Australia. "We are a U.S. export, like Coca-Cola," says Burnstein. "We seek the best markets."

Duff McKagan's Loaded - "The Taking"

Written by www.emuzyka.pl - emuzyka

McKagan is now a loving husband and father, bringing along his daughter to the concert Justin Bieber. In addition, a businessman with economic education, which, like urban legend says, at the right time invested in Starbucks. Writes to the "Seattle Weekly", Slash will help sometimes, and sometimes something popróbuje of Jane's Addiction. It does not have anything and maybe that is why his band Loaded music sounds so good. Duff and his buddies are not trying to set trends, redefine species. They do not want anything to prove, no one to impress, to get the charts. That is enough to play simple, unpretentious and quite loud. "The Talking" is a juicy, strong, rock (hard rock at times) playing. Sometimes the riff zapachnie climate of the South, sometimes appears przytup blues (you know, as in "Dust N 'Bones" GN'R) or a bit of punk aggression. Arrangement shall we see no finesse here, though here and there merrily beeps, tambourine, acoustic sounds will be either passed through some widgets vocals. Numbers are sharper, with a nice, vigorous motor activity, but also quieter (not to be confused with the ballads). In comparison with the previous "Sick", the new work is less severe, denser and more melodic, and because production took up guitar champion Terry Date sawing bits until nice. Loaded is nothing new, nor unusual, but musicians do not try to convince us otherwise. "The Talking" does not even really stand out for something special. Do not change the fact that it is honest, fun rock and roll, which listens to the large, and even the very great pleasure.

Guns N’ Roses: Another shot

Written by www.vindy.com - John Benson

Nothing epitomizes the push-pull dynamic of being a Guns N’ Roses (GNR) fan more than the opening lyrics of “Estranged” (from the 1991 album “Use Your Illusion II”): “When you’re talkin’ to yourself/And nobody’s home/You can fool yourself.”

The good news is the current lineup of GNR, which comes to Covelli Centre on Wednesday, is playing that tune.

The bad news is, in many ways singer Axl Rose has been fooling himself for the past decade and a half thinking his hard-rock vocals — not Slash’s raunchy guitar or Izzy Stradlin’s keen song-writing or bassist Duff McKagan’s, um, shenanigans (he once passed out in an elevator) — were solely responsible for turning GNR into the biggest hard-rock act in the world in its heyday.

The train derailment that became GNR shouldn’t have come as a surprise. After the success of its platinum debut, “Appetite For Destruction,” here’s a band that took nearly four years to record a sophomore effort, which grew into two albums in the form of 1991’s “Use Your Illusion” records.

Aside from Rose, the only other person to straddle the old and new GNR is keyboardist Dizzy Reed. The Vindicator talked to Reed, in Cleveland of all places (where the band had a stopover but no show was booked) about “Chinese Democracy,” the current tour and his friendship with Rose.

Q. Considering your hotel is literally a mile away from the Rock Hall, what are your thoughts on GNR’s chances of being a first-ballot inductee?

A. No one has said anything to me about it. I’ve just heard about it because people have asked me about it. Of course it would be an honor because of the other people that are there. I don’t know anything about the whole process and how it’s going down.

Q. Does GNR belong in the Rock Hall?

A. Sure, yeah, why not?

Q. Also, speaking of Cleveland, the last time GNR was in the Rock Hall City, Axl — after not taking the stage until well after midnight — famously fired opening band Eagles of Death Metal while on stage.

A. I sort of block that one out.

Q. As for the band’s current tour, what are the set times like? Any late-night starts?

A. I haven’t been to a concert in so long I don’t know when the normal time is, but we’ve been starting not late, and we give a pretty long show. It’s a good three hours of rock ’n’ roll. That’s how it’s been going down. But we’ve been going on stage on time.

Q. From this reviewer’s standpoint, despite the hype surrounding “Chinese Democracy,” the album is pretty solid and definitely didn’t leave fans with the same underwhelmed feeling they experience when listening to new material from ’80s rock acts. Was there ever a point when you felt the project wouldn’t see the day of light?

A. Certainly there was a lot of disappointing moments with setbacks, but I never really gave up on it. I always thought it had to [be released]. It was too good.

Q. What “Chinese Democracy” tracks stand out in the current set?

A. All the ones we’ve been doing seem to have been working really well. I like playing “Street of Dreams.” It’s a treat for me to come out and play the piano. And I like some of the heavier stuff; it’s fun to play those. They seem to go over really well like “Shackler’s Revenge.” Sometimes it’s fun to do the heavier stuff.

Q. Something that does stand out from a set-list perspective is the epic “Estranged.” What’s it like to play that song again?

A. It’s kind of a beast for me, and for everybody, but it’s such a great song. At the end of the song, you look out and people seem really appreciative to hear that again, so that’s been very cool. When we first started playing that way back when, before even “Use Your Illusion” albums were out, it was almost kind of the opposite; people were scratching their head going, “What the hell?” But so many years later, they seem really into it and seem to really appreciate that we’re doing that song. It’s a lot of fun to play now.

Q. There are some fans that feel it won’t truly be GNR until the original lineup is back in the fold.

A. I’d say pooh-y. I can’t comment on that.

Q. How are the two eras of GNR connected?

A. To me, they’re connected because I’ve been around for the whole thing. Someone quit, and we brought in somebody else. And that kept happening, so I guess the main thing that links everything together really is the guy singing, Axl. He has that kind of voice; that’s what does it.

Q. As for Axl, his image in the media is as a megalomaniac among other things. Are these accurate portrayals?

A. I think most of it is cruel and malicious and unnecessary. I don’t think he’s like that at all. He’s a good friend. He’s like a brother.

Q. So why have you lasted with GNR after so many haven’t?

A. I’m just a determined [expletive]. I’m a loyal friend and a determined [expletive].

Tour's End: Saying Goodbye to Whore's Baths, Punk-Rock Laundry, and 'Graze the Peach'

OK, then. You have all had chance to come along on this whirlwind tour that today concludes here in Hamburg, Germany. For the past four weeks, I have tried my best to give you all an inside-ish view of what a rock tour is like.
Well, at least what a rock tour looks like if you are a band the size of Loaded. We don't get to do fancy things, like have days off. We in the band did a count the other day. In the 31 days that we have been gone, we will have been to five continents. Check it out:

-- U.S. to the UK (that's two continents)

-- Berlin to Santiago (the count is now three continents)

-- Cordoba, Argentina, to Berlin (four)

-- London back to Seattle (five, y'all)

Now there are definitely other and more sane ways to tour, for sure, but in our little Loaded world, things have to be just a bit insane for it all to make sense to us. For whatever reason, we attract the zaniest of tour scheduling.

But you all know how much of a family man I am . . . and I absolutely HATE to be away from them. In a perfect world, my wife Susan and our girls Grace and Mae (and our dumb dogs too, of course) would go on the road together. But there is this dumb thing called "school" that just plain gets in the way.

So without them being around, and just being around the same dudes 24/7, a strange phenomenon happens: We all start to act like 14-year-old boys (see my "Fart Tennis" column.) We have a game that has developed over these last couple of weeks (RIGHT after Mrs. McKagan and I parted ways in London) . . . this game has been dubbed "Graze the Peach."

It involves surprise and cunning. A quick and unknowing flick of the hand to another fella's groin region can sustain terror and "two hands on deck" at all times of the waking day. Bus bunks are off limits, and you can't Graze the Peach if someone is holding a hot beverage or computer. I've been drinking coffee and writing columns constantly as a result . . . Yes, yes. I know this just might be TMI.
I HATE Graze the Peach.

DUFF MCKAGAN SINGS THE PRAISES OF MOTORHEAD

Written by Loudwire.com - Jeff Giles

Duff McKagan and Lemmy

If you had the opportunity to share a stage with Lemmy, you’d probably freak out, right? One of the few rock icons who can go by one name, he’s been raising the art of the bass to growling new heights with Motorhead for nearly 40 years, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

In fact, Lemmy’s legend is so powerful that it can even provoke fanboy gushing from a grizzled rock vet like ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, who devoted his most recent ESPN column to a grin-filled discussion of his band Loaded’s seven-night Germany run with Motorhead.
“This tour will, in the end, see me land in no fewer than five continents in a scant 30 days,” began McKagan, describing his road fatigue in detail: “To say that my bandmates and I are exhausted would be a laughable understatement … My clothes are filthy. My hands and vocal cords are ripped and torn. My eyes are so bloodshot that I don’t even need rose-colored glasses anymore.”

But Duff and the band aren’t complaining. Why? Because they got the nod from Lemmy. As McKagan puts it, “If you are a rock band of Loaded’s size and ilk, playing Germany with Motorhead is like making it to The Show when you get called up to the major leagues in baseball … This past 10 days away from home have been the hardest, but playing with Motorhead makes things OK. We would have said ‘no’ to any other offer and simply gone home after South America.”

And what makes Lemmy’s crew so special? In McKagan’s words, “Motorhead forged the way as leaders to all of the rest of us who would shortly form bands. From Metallica to Megadeth to Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Guns N’ Roses, and on and on … they all have noted Motorhead as a key influence.”

But it’s more than that. Continued McKagan, “Lemmy’s no-B.S. attitude toward touring and making records, and his relentless touring stamina, make everyone else rather pale and weak in comparison. He is like the Brett Favre of rock ‘n’ roll … well, except Lemmy Kilmister is still playing and doesn’t cry.”

And how does actually touring with the legend hold up against Duff’s expectations? Pretty well, as it turns out: “Actually being here on the road with Motorhead is to get an awe-inspiring peek into legend. Motorhead guitarist Campbell has never been better. Dee plays drums like a beast possessed. And Lemmy is still more on top of his game than five 20-year-olds combined. If you get a chance to see this band, just don’t even try to think twice about it. They are the very best of what it is all about … it is like going to rock ‘n’ roll church.”
